What? Men shaving their legs, their arms and even parts of their body that is not their beard! Never heard of such a ridiculous notion! That would have been granny’s comment on the subject of shaving for men.
What do you know, I agree, for why on earth would you want to shave every few days if you can have the hair permanently removed and not have to worry about it again? Mmmphf! You thought I was being a prude, weren’t you? Shaving is such a boring and time wasting exercise because it only lasts for a day, the side effect is nasty sharp stubble when it starts growing and there is a possibility of horrid little bumps where ingrown hair has developed as a result of shaving.
Shaving your beard every day is a different issue as it is as bad as putting on makeup. You are likely to look a lot worse if you don’t do it. Very few men, and mostly seen only on airbrushed photographs in magazines, actually look good with a few days’ worth of stubble, and that is only when you don’t have to get up too close and personal with them.
Laser Hair Removal.
Nowadays Laser hair removal is a fully developed and safe procedure that results in long term permanent hair reduction on the body. At Skin and Body Renewal clinics they have the latest and best laser/light treatment for any skin type and hair color. Grey and white hair removal can be improved at the Skin Renewal Rivonia branch with the SyneronEmax laser system. There is the CoolGlide laser or the light based ProWave™ treatment to choose from and if that’s not your treatment of choice, they have electrolysis or chemical depilatories such as an alkaline wash to permanently reduce hair anywhere on the face or body to treat hair removal. Each person is individually assessed and their treatment tailored to their needs and circumstances by a highly professional team.
CoolGlide Laser and ProWave Laser.
The CooGlide Excel Laser was the first 1064 nm Nd: Yag laser approved by the FDA to permanently reduce hair in patients from pale to dark skin types, and can be used on African and Asian skins as well. It also means that it can be used on tanned skin, while tanning and for those unfortunate enough to suffer from Barber’s rash, more commonly recognized as ingrown hairs. Whereas other treatments cannot be done when a person’s skin is tanned or darker, the CoolGlide laser is a diverse hair removal treatment that may be used year round.
The ProWave Laser can treat skin types I-V and due to the large spot size and fast repetition rate, large areas like the legs and back can be treated in about 4-6 treatments. The ProWave laser emits mostly infrared light above 770nm, and the output spectrum can be shifted to optimize treatment for each patient. It was nominated for the best IPL technology for hair removal in the USA in 2007 and is a fourth generation IPL device.
Permanent Hair Removal.
For hair to be successfully removed, a hair must be present in the hair follicle as the infra-red light targets the germ cell above the hair follicle. Hair grows and rests in phases and that is also the reason why the procedure cannot be done in one treatment. Hair in the growing phase can be removed, but hair in the resting phase can only be done at a subsequent treatment when it is back in the growing phase. Hair in the resting phase do not mature pigment at their follicle bulb which is the target for the light. Although 100% hair reduction cannot be guaranteed, the statistics show that between 30-90% of hair does not grow back after the end of the treatment cycle. Follow up treatments might be necessary later.
White and grey hair is notoriously difficult to remove, and light hair may require more treatments and more maintenance. Facial hair is also difficult to treat as it is hormone dependent. More treatments are needed with session one month apart.
Permanent hair removal is a good solution for getting rid of unwanted hair and once it has been done, requires little maintenance. For sports such as cycling, where hairless legs are an advantage, it is worth considering as it does eliminate all the hassle of shaving every few days. Make that appointment and get over it and get on with your life with one less hassle.
